Parking in Central Ballard

SDOT staff recently got an earful from Ballard business leaders about the need to revisit the on street parking system which they allege has been severely pressured by dramatic growth in mixed use development and by the changing character of business in the Market St/Ballard Ave corridors. At this point, SDOT’s community parking program has downtown Ballard on their work plan for 2012.

Car Camping

Two to five AM parking restrictions – One of the means by which the city addresses the impact that “car camping” has on a neighborhood is to install signs which restricts parking between 2 -5 AM. This approach has been used on numerous streets ; mostly in Ballard’s industrial area. Although not without its critics (mostly advocates for homeless persons), there is plenty of evidence to believe that this tactic works well (at least on a block by block basis).
